Crowded House / Time On Earth

ATO Records

Crowded House are back

with their first new album in 14

years, and that’s good news

for fans of memorable melodies

and chiming guitars. The New

Zealand band is led by founding

members Neil Finn and Nick

Seymour. Matt Sherrod takes

the seat once occupied by

drummer Paul Hester, who

committed suicide in 2005.

On first listen, there is nothing

that rose to the level of

Crowded House classics like

“Fall At Your Feet.” But now that

I’ve had the chance to hear the

album a few times, there are a

number of songs that are stuck

in my head. The first single,

“Don’t Stop Now,” is certainly

the first song ever written from

the point of view of an

automobile’s GPS system.

This is the most welcome

reunion in recent memory.
