Matt Pond PA/Last Light

Altitude Records

How do you follow up the album

that you described as the most

autobiographical of your career?

What Matt Pond has done is to

continue offering glimpses of his

life on the road as his world

continues to expand.

The music rocks a little harder

this time out, but it’s the songwriting

that shows the most development.

His influences are decidedly

English, and there are hints of

everyone from ELO to Blur here.

The title track is a swirling, driving

mass that would be at home on

a Spiritualized album. “The Crush”

is a harrowing tale of obsession

played out by angular guitars.

I look forward to hearing Matt

Pond’s future dispatches from the

road. He will be appearing at The

Stone Pony on Nov.2 and at the

Music Hall Of Williamsburg in

Brooklyn on Nov. 5.
